About RWP

Rail Wheel Plant, Bela has become a Production Unit of Indian Railways w.e.f. 01.08.2014. It is situated at Bela in Dariyapur Block of Saran district in Bihar (India). Foundation stone of this Plant was laid on 29-07-2008 by the Minister for Railways Shri Lalu Prasad Yadav. It is built at an approx. cost of Rs.1639.59 crores. It is spread over a land area of 295 acres. The project work was looked after by Workshop Projects/Indian Railways, Patna. Construction of plant started in July 2008. This plant is a step to revive industrialization in Northern Bihar. Indian Railways made history by awarding this project to M/s Larsen &Toubro Limited. It was for the first time in history of Indian Railways that a highly sophisticated factory was setup without any foreign collaboration. It was possible because of in house capability of Railway engineers and expertise of world renowned Indian company. It was a challenge for Railways to start civil works in such a difficult site which is surrounded by river bodies from two sides. To add to the complication, the elevation of Plant was lower than the river bed. The production activity started on 09-11-2011. The initial product of Rail Wheel Plant, Bela was BOX-N wheel, and at present BOX-N, BGC , BLC and EMU wheels are also being manufactured. RWP ensure that the pollution levels of water, air, exhaust-emissions and hazardous wastes are well within the limits stipulated. Green belt is being developed in 33% of the plant area. Our efforts are for a clean and green area as per environmental clearance granted by Ministry of environment and forest/Government of India. The plant is having CCTV camera for centralized monitoring of various important and sensitive areas from security point of view.
